KUCHING, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Information Department (JAPEN) reminds the people of Bumi Kenyalang to replace their worn and torn Jalur Gemilang with a new one and to fly the flag in their respective homes in an effort to ignite the spirit of independence this year.
Sarawak JAPEN director Sabri Said said the use of the neat and clean Malaysian flag reflects the people's determination to continue to preserve and respect the country's peace that has been achieved over the years.
“To the community or individual who has been hanging the Jalur Gemilang for months causing the flag to become tattered, it is hoped that they can change it as a reflection for us to restore our determination and resolve to continue preserving our independence.
“It also reflects our responsibility as Malaysians to always love this homeland,” he said when met by reporters after the Jiwa@Komuniti Programme in conjunction with the National Day Malaysia Day (HKHM) 2026 celebration at Tadika Adinda here, today.
He said the programme involving parents and kindergarten children was enlivened with various events including the hoisting of the Jalur Gemilang, singing the independence song and colouring activities aimed at fostering patriotism, especially among children.
According to him, JAPEN Sarawak is also implementing the 1 Rumah 1 Jalur Gemilang (1R1JG) initiative to encourage the public to further invigorate their efforts to love the country by hoisting the Jalur Gemilang at various premises including homes, schools and offices.
Sabri said his party would continue to ramp up the mobile announcement or ‘Info On Wheels’ (IOW) initiative in all districts in Sarawak to promote HKHM 2026 to the community.
