KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) described the government’s initiative to introduce a new promotion method for members of the security forces and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) as a significant recognition and morale booster for both services.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the move, which was highly anticipated by PDRM personnel, reflected the government’s concern for those entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding public safety and order.

He expressed his deepest appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the government’s attention towards the agenda of strengthening the career advancement of national security forces personnel.

“PDRM believes that any improvement to the career progression pathway will have a positive impact on the motivation and professionalism of officers and personnel in carrying out their duties,” he said in a statement here tonight.

The Prime Minister when addressing the Semarak Kenegaraan programme with MAF personnel at Terendak Camp here today, said the government had, in principle, agreed to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and expedite the promotion process for MAF and PDRM personnel, aligning it with the promotion system for the wider public service.

Anwar said details of the new mechanism were expected to be announced during the Ambang Merdeka celebration at Stadium Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 30.

Meanwhile, Mohd Khalid said PDRM was awaiting details of the new mechanism and expressed the force’s readiness to provide full cooperation to ensure its smooth implementation.

He said the government’s commitment would further motivate PDRM personnel to strengthen integrity, enhance professionalism and continue providing quality policing services for the safety and well-being of the people and the country.
