SHAH ALAM, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government has urged non-pensioned Armed Forces and police veterans to check their eligibility for the 2026 Warriors’ Day’s Jom Shopping vouchers to ensure they do not miss out on the RM200 benefit, which expires on Aug 31.
Human Resources and Poverty Eradication Committee chairman V. Papparaidu said the number of claims remained low since the initiative was launched on July 29, with only about 500 claims made out of the 8,391 non-pensioned armed forces and police veterans listed as eligible.
“I urge these non-pensioned armed forces and police veterans to check their eligibility with their respective State Legislative Assembly service centres, as we found that when we tried to contact them, many had changed their telephone numbers.
“Some had also moved away and so on, so we have relaxed the requirements to allow representatives or next-of-kin of the individuals concerned to come and claim the vouchers on behalf of the named recipients,” he said at a press conference at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly lobby here today.
Papparaidu also stressed that no application was required to claim the vouchers, as recipients had been selected based on lists submitted by the Department of Veterans Affairs (JHEV) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), which were subsequently scrutinised by the Selangor Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) and verified by the respective State Legislative Assembly service centres.
He said the vouchers, involving an allocation of RM1.7 million, were distributed through the respective service centres and could be used at participating supermarkets to purchase approved daily necessities, excluding cigarettes and alcoholic beverages.
“The Selangor government hopes this initiative will not only help ease the veterans’ daily expenses, but also serve as a manifestation of the state government’s appreciation and continued commitment to safeguarding the welfare of those who have contributed greatly to the country,” he said.
