KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is ready to fully cooperate following the Cabinet's decision regarding the involvement of police officers in the Aviation Security (AVSEC) team as an immediate improvement step for the country's aviation security control.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said that the PDRM, together with the Home Ministry (KDN), the Ministry of Transport (MOT), and related agencies are currently detailing the implementation mechanism.
He said that the matter includes the scope of assignment, placement location, human resource requirements, areas of responsibility and operational coordination.
"The PDRM believes that the involvement of the police force in the aviation security ecosystem will strengthen the capabilities of intelligence sharing, early detection, enforcement coordination, and immediate action against any threats or criminal activities attempting to exploit aviation facilities and procedures," he said in a statement tonight.
He said the measure would be part of a more comprehensive and layered security system, encompassing the strengthening of access control, screening procedures, security checks, risk assessments, and strategic cooperation among all agencies and stakeholders.
Mohd Khalid said that the implementation of tighter, integrated, and intelligence-based security controls is believed to strengthen preventive capabilities, reduce risks, and close gaps that could be potentially exploited by irresponsible parties.
"The PDRM assures that flight safety and the security of the country's entry and exit points will continue to be prioritised.
"Any attempt to use the aviation industry as a channel for criminal activities will not be compromised," he added.
MADANI Government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil announced today that the government will deploy PDRM personnel to the AVSEC team as an immediate step to strengthen security control at airports, following the case of a Malaysian pilot detained in Indonesia on suspicion of smuggling drugs.
