NARATHIWAT, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- A Malaysian football player who was injured after being struck by lightning during the Golok FA Cup match at Santiphap Stadium here has been allowed to return to Kelantan on Tuesday.
Sungai Golok Police Chief Col Thun Sirikhunt said Mohamad Alif Ezzahan Zulkifli, 22, who plays for the SAMCOLTS team, was allowed to return home after receiving treatment at Sungai Golok Hospital.
"Medical examinations found that the victim, who is from Kelantan, only sustained an injury to his leg and was allowed to return home," he told Bernama when contacted on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Consul 1 at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla, Muhammad Danial Atif Nasiren, said the consulate had checked with Sungai Golok Hospital and was informed that the victim had returned to Malaysia for further treatment.
"The victim only received initial treatment at Sungai Golok Hospital yesterday and did not suffer any serious injuries," he said.
In the incident at about 5 pm yesterday, local football club player Sofwan Awae, 24, was killed, while more than nine other individuals were injured and sent to Sungai Golok Hospital for treatment.
