KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Hungary are strengthening cooperation in the agricultural sector and food security through various initiatives, including Hungary's participation in the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the matter was discussed during his meeting with the Hungarian Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr. Sándor Sipos, who paid a courtesy call today.
He said the discussions also covered the implementation of the first Malaysia-Hungary Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting, research collaboration between the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), as well as efforts to expand trade and investment in the agri-food sector between the two countries.
"The technical cooperation between MARDI and MATE continues to show positive development, including through the Erasmus+ Researcher exchange programme, research in the fields of genetics, breeding technology, and the development of high-quality livestock products," he said in a Facebook post today.
Mohamad also said the cooperation is expected to open more opportunities for farmers, breeders, researchers, and agri-food entrepreneurs in both countries via the sharing of expertise, technology and experience.
He added that the good relationship between Malaysia and Hungary in the agricultural sector will continue to be strengthened to support the development of the national agri-food sector and to enhance food security.
