PUTRAJAYA, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The Digital Ministry, through the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), will launch the Malaysia Digital Tour (JMD) 2026 this Saturday at the Damansara Damai Community Hall, Selangor, to bring digital skills, technology and economic opportunities closer to the people.
In a statement today, MDEC said the launch will mark the start of a nationwide tour series at five locations aimed at bridging the digital divide between urban, suburban and rural communities.
The statement said JMD 2026 targets reaching and engaging 500,000 people physically and online, particularly students, youths, job seekers, freelancers and micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) entrepreneurs.
"For this year's edition, the tour focuses on four main pillars, namely Digital Literacy and Ethics, Digital Careers, Digital Freelance, as well as Digital Business and Entrepreneurship.
"Through training, guidance, industry sharing sessions and technology demonstrations, participants will have the opportunity to enhance their digital skills, explore careers in technology, creative content, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and smart agriculture, as well as generate income through the digital economy," the statement said.
The free JMD programme, which is open to the public, will feature industry sharing sessions, practical workshops, robotics and drone demonstrations, digital games, live selling activities, local entrepreneur exhibitions, networking sessions and registration of interest for MDEC's training, entrepreneurship and digital career programmes.
Visitors can also access services at the Employees Provident Fund counters, register for MyDigital ID and obtain information on the MyGOV application.
In addition, PUSPAKOM will offer AI-based vehicle inspections for the first 40 vehicles, while ZUS Coffee will provide up to 400 free cups of coffee for visitors.
For entrepreneurs, the programme will provide exposure to initiatives such as eUsahawan, Global Online Workforce, live commerce, digital marketing and National e-Invoicing to help them digitise operations, improve productivity and expand their markets.
According to MDEC, JMD 2026 supports the Malaysia Digital 2030 agenda and the nation's aspiration to become an AI-driven country by 2030.
"Through collaboration between the federal government, state governments, industry and communities, this initiative helps ensure the country's digital transformation is carried out inclusively while benefiting the people and local enterprises," the statement said.
After Selangor, the tour series will continue at Dewan Bistari Ayer Keroh, Melaka on Aug 15 before moving on to Kuching; Bagan Datuk, Perak; and Pahang.
