KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn will co-chair the third Malaysia-Cambodia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), during the two-day official visit in Malaysia, commencing today.
On Tuesday, Prak Sokhonn will co-chair the third JCBC Meeting in Kuala Lumpur with Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, marking the resumption of the bilateral mechanism after a 20-year hiatus.
The Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) said in a statement on Monday that the visit comes ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Cambodia in 2027, underscoring the close and enduring partnership between the two countries.
It said Prak Sokhonn is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Monday, with both leaders expected to reaffirm the longstanding bilateral ties and exchange views on issues of mutual interest.
Wisma Putra said the third JCBC meeting follows a two-decade pause since the second meeting was held in Siem Reap in 2006.
It reflects the renewed momentum in Malaysia-Cambodia relations and the shared commitment of both countries to elevate bilateral cooperation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both foreign ministers are expected to sign the Agreed Minutes of the third JCBC, outlining the key outcomes of the discussions and reaffirming Malaysia's and Cambodia's commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Malaysia and Cambodia recorded robust trade growth in 2025, with bilateral trade rising 27.4 per cent year-on-year to RM5 billion (US$1.17 billion). Malaysia's exports to Cambodia amounted to RM4.13 billion (US$970 million), while imports totalled RM880 million (US$200 million).
As of 2024, Malaysia's cumulative investments in Cambodia stood at US$3.20 billion (RM13.07 billion) across 162 registered projects, making Malaysia the third-largest foreign investor in the Kingdom.
