KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- WCT Holdings Berhad (WCT) has unveiled its ESG Queen Bee Programme, a paid supplier support programme that will provide environmental, social and governance (ESG) training, decarbonisation strategy development and carbon reassessments over a period of up to two years.
The group said the programme was introduced at the recent ‘Vendor Sustainability Readiness Dialogue: Prepare for Future ESG and Project Requirements’, attended by representatives from WCT, BSD Consultancy Sdn Bhd, Climate Asia Pte Ltd and selected strategic suppliers within WCT’s supply chain.
The first year of the programme would focus on ESG training and knowledge sharing, carbon baseline assessment and decarbonisation strategy development, while the second year would involve carbon reassessments for participating suppliers that proceed with implementing the proposed decarbonisation strategies from Year One.
“As part of this initiative, WCT formalised its collaboration with BSD Consultancy through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for the development and implementation of the WCT ESG Queen Bee Programme,” the group said in a statement today.
It said the programme fees would be determined based on the size and scope of each participating supplier’s operations.
WCT said Climate Asia, a subsidiary of BSD Consultancy, would support the programme with technical expertise in sustainability and carbon-related advisory services.
WCT Group Managing Director Datuk Lee Tuck Fook said in the statement that the group recognised that building a sustainable future required collective effort across its value chain, with suppliers playing an important role in that journey.
“Through the ESG Queen Bee Programme, we aim to support selected suppliers in strengthening their sustainability readiness and capabilities, while contributing to a more resilient and future-ready supply chain,” he said.
Meanwhile, BSD Consultancy Managing Director Kelly Lee said the programme would enable WCT to play an advocacy role in encouraging suppliers and key partners to take their first steps towards sustainability and carbon tracking amid the growing importance of supply chain readiness and Scope 3 emissions tracking.
“WCT is well positioned to be among the first movers in pioneering this approach,” she said.
Established in 1981 and listed on Bursa Malaysia’s Main Market since 1995, WCT has about 2,000 employees and a presence in six countries, with core businesses spanning engineering and construction, property development as well as property investment and management.
