GEORGE TOWN, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- A section of the roof of a building being repaired at Jalan Green Hall collapsed today, causing damage to a car parked nearby after it was struck by the debris.
No one was injured in the incident, and checks showed that the repair works on the building had received a permit approval from the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) Heritage Conservation Department.
MBPP Mayor Datuk A. Rajendran said the council had instructed the architect overseeing the project to take immediate action following the incident.
“MBPP has instructed the project architect to take immediate action, and he has confirmed that the necessary measures are being implemented. An investigation is also underway,” he said when contacted.
He said MBPP’s enforcement team had also helped put up barricades around the area to safeguard members of the public.
