Trump Says Qatar-Gifted Presidential Aircraft To Undergo Major Security Upgrades

WASHINGTON, July 20 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- President Donald Trump said that the new United States (US) presidential aircraft gifted by Qatar will undergo major security upgrades amid reports that it lacks missile countermeasures, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

“It has a lot of capability, but as I understand it, in about a month or so, they're going to send it to have it be maxed out. It'll take about a month,” the president said on Sunday evening when asked why he was flying in the aircraft despite it not being equipped with anti-missile defences.

On June 19, the Qatar-gifted Boeing 747-8 entered service as the new Air Force One plane for the president.

The presidential aircraft is valued at US$400 million, marking a record-breaking gift to any US president.

Current and former US officials said it would take years and billions of dollars to retrofit the plane to meet presidential security requirements.
