JOHOR BAHRU, July 11 (Bernama) -- Several senior leaders of political parties were among the earliest voters to cast their ballots in the 16th Johor state election today.
Johor PKR chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa voted at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Baru Uda here at 9 am.
The former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) and her husband, Dr Ahmad Adzlan Musa, cast their ballots in the Larkin constituency.
"I hope the people of Johor will take the initiative to come out early to cast their ballots to avoid the rain forecast from midday until the afternoon," she told reporters.
Meanwhile, Johor DAP chairman Teo Nie Ching cast her ballot at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Kulai Besar in Kulai at about 9.30 am.
Teo urged the public, particularly voters, not to be easily misled by fake news.
"Be digitally literate netizens and voters so that we can exercise our voting rights wisely," she said.
Meanwhile, in MUAR, Johor Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Aminolhuda Hassan cast his ballot at SJKC Limbong at about 10.25 am in the Sungai Balang constituency.
Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin voted at SMK Sri Muar at about 10.15 am.
The former Prime Minister and his wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, cast their ballots in the Maharani constituency.
He urged those who had yet to fulfil their civic duty to come out and vote despite the unfavourable weather.
"What matters is that voters fulfil their responsibility, and once the process is completed, Johor will have a new state government," he said.
