PETALING JAYA, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah tonight graced the special screening of the documentary 'TEKAD: Ekspedisi Guthrie Everest 2026' at a cinema in Subang Jaya.
The documentary captures the journey of two national climbers, Mohd Khafiz Bachok, 47, better known as Kicok, and Chew Wei Ngor, 56, also known as Margaret, as they tested their physical and mental endurance to achieve their dream of conquering the world's highest peak.
Before the screening, Her Royal Highness was presented with the Jalur Gemilang that Mohd Khafiz had raised on the summit of Mount Everest, along with a copy of his book titled 'Misi K2: Pendakian Ironman Malaysia ke Puncak Gunung Paling Berbahaya di Dunia'.
Also present were Ministry of Communications Deputy Secretary-General (Strategic Communication and Creative Industry) Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil and SD Guthrie Berhad Group Chief Human Capital Officer Shahrizan Aini Shamsul Khalil.
Produced by Rack Focus Films and Red Communications and directed by Ahmad Yazid, the documentary offers an insight into the physical and mental challenges faced by the expedition team in the extreme conditions of the Himalayas.
Marwan Murshid served as director of photography, with the production crew following the journey up to Everest Base Camp (EBC).
Footage of Mohd Khafiz's journey after leaving EBC for the summit was captured by himself and his accompanying Sherpa throughout the climb.
During their stay of over 40 days at EBC, located at an altitude of about 5,300 metres above sea level, the expedition team faced temperatures plunging to nearly minus 25 degrees Celsius, high-altitude health complications and unpredictable mountain weather.
Among the most dangerous obstacles was the Khumbu Icefall, an unstable glacier climbers had to navigate en route to the summit.
Mohd Khafiz successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest after a final 12-hour climb while enduring deteriorating health and wind gusts of up to 40 kilometres per hour.
Meanwhile, Margaret reached Camp Four at an altitude of about 8,000 metres above sea level before severe congestion along the summit route forced her to abort the climb.
The documentary 'TEKAD: Ekspedisi Guthrie Everest 2026' will air exclusively on Astro Channel 100 at 8 pm on Sept 13 in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
