UPNM Launches Creative Hub To Strengthen Digital Learning Facilities

KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- The National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) today launched a Creative Hub featuring two new studios - the Digital Studio (Green Screen Studio) and the Maker Space - to strengthen the university's digital learning facilities.

In a statement issued today, UPNM announced that the RM1.9 million project was implemented through an allocation under the 5th Rolling Plan (RP5) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP). This marks the beginning of a new phase in the university's academic modernisation while stimulating critical thinking among its community.

According to the statement, the Digital Studio facility will serve as a hub for professional video production, multimedia recording, documentaries, and interactive digital learning content while the collaborative Maker Space provides a creative environment to foster innovation rooted in 21st-century educational aspirations.

Meanwhile, UPNM Vice-Chancellor Lieutenant General Datuk Wira Arman Rumaizi Ahmad stated that the launch of the Creative Hub was held concurrently with the inauguration of the General Tun Ibrahim Gallery at the General Tun Ibrahim Library (PJTI), UPNM, ensuring that elements of military history and modernisation progress hand-in-hand.

"Through the 12MP, RP5 allocation totaling RM1.9 million, this library has successfully implemented various initiatives for infrastructure empowerment and learning digitalisation," he said.

"Among these are the computer lab upgrading project and the construction of two new facilities, namely the Green Screen Studio and the Maker Space, collectively known as the Creative Hub," he added.

According to the same statement, the execution of this dual initiative showcases a unique integration between preserving the nation's military historical heritage and empowering future educational technology.

The statement also noted that the General Tun Ibrahim Gallery was upgraded using a RM100,000 donation from the family of the late Tun Ibrahim. This was done to preserve the intellectual heritage of the former Chief of the Armed Forces, who was also the first recipient of the Honorary Doctorate Degree (Strategic Studies) during UPNM's Inaugural Convocation Ceremony in 2010.

According to UPNM, the fund also powered a special Documentary Video Production Project to preserve the late general's intellectual legacy. The gallery houses a valuable personal collection donated by his family, including books, medals of honor, and historical photographs, serving as a primary reference source for understanding the history of national military leadership.

In line with this, Arman Rumaizi expressed hope that the gallery would revive the late general's fighting spirit and instill values of leadership, patriotism, and devotion to the country among the UPNM community, particularly the cadet officers.

UPNM also stated that this strategic involvement reflects the university's commitment to building a higher education ecosystem that connects institutions, industries, and communities, in line with the aspirations of the UPNM30 Strategic Plan.
