Penang Police Arrest Man With Liquid Syabu Worth RM450,000
GEORGE TOWN, July 9 (Bernama) -- Penang police have crippled a liquid syabu processing and distribution syndicate following the arrest of a 40-year-old local man and the seizure of drugs worth more than RM450,000 in Nibong Tebal on Monday.
State police chief Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng said the suspect was arrested at about 9 pm following intelligence gathered by the Penang Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) with assistance from the public.
“Police seized nine kilograms of liquid syabu and are tracking down other individuals believed to be involved in the syndicate,” he said in a statement today.
Initial investigations found that the syndicate had been processing and distributing drugs in the Nibong Tebal area since May this year, he said.
Lim said the suspect tested negative for drugs, but checks revealed he had previous drug- and crime-related offences.
He said police also seized assets worth about RM70,000 believed to belong to the suspect under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, while the man has been remanded for seven days until July 13 to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Lim said the police will not compromise with any party involved in drug trafficking activities, as possessing, trafficking or protecting drug activities are serious offences under the law, and urged those with information on drug-related crimes to contact the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222.
