Sabah Op Chiller Nets 21 Arrests, RM24.15 Mln Worth Of Seizures
KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- Police arrested 21 people and seized frozen products and assets worth over RM24.15 million during an integrated Op Chiller in 11 districts in Sabah yesterday.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the operation, from 8 am to 6 pm, was carried out by the General Operations Force (GOF) Sabah Brigade to detect and prevent smuggling, storage, and processing of frozen goods.
He said 14 raids were conducted in Kota Kinabalu, Papar, Penampang, Tawau, Keningau, Semporna, Sandakan, Beluran, Lahad Datu, Sook and Sipitang.
"The operation led to the arrest of 21 individuals aged between 20 and 66, comprising 19 locals and two foreign men. None have prior criminal records," he said in a statement today.
Mohd Yusri said police seized frozen products such as nuggets, sausages, imported meat, lamb shoulders, chicken, fish, shabu-shabu meat, and beef offal worth RM10,348,152, along with assets valued at RM13,804,500.
"The seized assets include 11 units of various brands of chillers with a 700-litre capacity, 24 cold rooms of various sizes, several vehicles, and equipment, bringing the total estimated value of the seized goods and assets to RM24,152,652," he said.
He said several offences were detected during the operation, including violations of the Animal Enactment 2015, the Food Act 1983, the Lahad Datu District Council By-Laws, and the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
The operation involved 147 officers and personnel from the GOF, the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Department of Veterinary Services, local authorities, and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).
He said all suspects and seized items have been handed to relevant agencies for investigation and further action.
