Four Civil Servants, Company Owner Remanded In Graft Probe

KANGAR, July 8 (Bernama) -- Four civil servants from a public pre-university institution in Perlis and a company owner have been remanded for four days starting today to assist in an investigation into a corruption case involving government procurement projects worth about RM100,000 in 2023 and 2024.

According to a source from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the remand order against the three men and two women in their 40s was granted by Kangar High Court senior assistant registrar Mohd Amiruldin Roslan following MACC’s application today.

“The suspects were arrested between 2 pm and 4 pm yesterday when they turned up to give statements at the Perlis MACC office,” the source said.

The source added that the four civil servants are suspected of soliciting and receiving about RM25,000 in bribes in return for helping a company involved in construction, food supply and maintenance services secure government procurement projects at the institution worth about RM100,000.

“Initial investigations found that the suspects are believed to have conspired to commit the offence between 2023 and 2024. The four civil servants are believed to have received bribes ranging from RM2,000 to RM10,000 for each project, with a total of 16 projects obtained,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Perlis MACC director Mohd Nor Adha Ab Gani, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

He added that the commission is determined to put an end to the abuse of power and dismantle cartels involved in the awarding of contracts to monopolising contractors at the institution.
