Johor Polls: PM Anwar's Presence Gives PH Campaign A Boost - Fahmi

JOHOR BAHRU, July 7 (Bernama) -- The presence of Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to help the coalition candidates’ campaign in the 16th Johor State Election is seen to have received an extraordinary and encouraging response from the local community.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said he witnessed the positive reaction himself while accompanying the Prime Minister at two campaign programmes in Senggarang and Semerah in the Batu Pahat district recently.

“I saw the reactions from the community, including spontaneous responses. In Senggarang, an elderly man brought his wife in his trishaw just to meet the Prime Minister,” he said.

Fahmi, who is also PH Communications director, told reporters this after visiting the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) operations room in conjunction with the Johor polls here today.

The PKR Information chief said the response reflected the interest and acceptance of the community towards the campaign narrative presented by the coalition throughout the state election period.

“We have indeed seen many waiting, hoping and wanting to meet (the Prime Minister). We believe this situation will be translated either into support or, at the very least, interest in what is happening, namely the state election,” he said.

On Saturday (July 4) and Sunday (July 5), the Prime Minister attended 15 programmes statewide to intensify PH’s campaign efforts, while providing encouragement and support to candidates and the party machinery.

In this state election, PH is fielding candidates in all 56 State Legislative Assembly seats.

A total of 172 candidates are contesting the 56 seats, with polling day set for Saturday (July 11), while early voting took place today.
