MPT, Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation Partner To Boost Perak Tourism, Conservation Efforts

TAIPING, July 7 (Bernama) -- The Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bukit Merah Laketown Resort (BMLR) and Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation (BMOUIF) to strengthen the tourism, conservation and education ecosystem in Perak.

The MoU was signed by MPT president Mohamed Akmal Dahalan, Bukit Merah Sdn Bhd director Md Nazri Tumin and BMOUIF chairman Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Abdul Latif Mohamad at a ceremony held at the Taiping Zoo & Night Safari Pavilion here, today.

The strategic collaboration aims to develop a more integrated tourism, education, conservation and community development ecosystem, while strengthening ties between two of Perak's main tourism destinations, namely Taiping and Bukit Merah.

Mohamed Akmal said various initiatives would be implemented, including the development of integrated tourism packages, cross-promotion between destinations, education and conservation awareness programmes, development of new tourism products, as well as community and sustainability programmes that could benefit the public.

“What was signed today is not merely a memorandum of understanding, but the beginning of efforts to establish a more integrated tourism ecosystem in Perak.

“When tourism attractions, conservation institutions and industry players work together, the benefits will not only be felt by the organisations involved but also enjoyed by the local community through economic opportunities, education and more sustainable community development,” he said at a press conference after the MoU ceremony.

Meanwhile, Md Nazri said the collaboration would not only increase visitor numbers to both destinations but also create economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs, while encouraging tourists to stay longer and spend more in the state.

“We also view this collaboration as an important platform to strengthen awareness of the importance of environmental and biodiversity conservation.

“In addition, we hope more people, especially the younger generation, will be exposed to conservation efforts and the importance of protecting natural heritage,” he said.
