Sarawak Cancer Centre Project Set To Start In Early 2027 - Nanta

KUCHING, July 7 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Cancer Centre project in Kota Samarahan is expected to begin in January 2027 once the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) is issued to the successful contractor, says Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said the project was currently at the design-and-build tender stage, with 10 contractors having successfully passed the pre-qualification process and attended a briefing to gain a detailed understanding of the project scope before submitting their respective proposals.

“Contractors will be given about three months to prepare and submit their proposals.

“Once the evaluation process is completed, we hope the LOA can be issued in early January 2027 before the design and construction works commence,” he told reporters after visiting the project site here today.

Nanta said the successful contractor would be given 60 months to complete the design and construction works, followed by a two-year Defects Liability Period (DLP).

He said the design of the Sarawak Cancer Centre must comply with the requirements set by the Health Ministry while incorporating a modern concept.

“The cancer centre, to be built adjacent to the Sarawak Heart Centre on a 10.9-hectare (27-acre) site, will have a capacity of 310 beds and provide both outpatient and inpatient services.

“Based on current understanding, the total project cost is expected to exceed RM1 billion. The Sarawak government has allocated RM1 billion for the project and the amount will be reimbursed later in accordance with the agreed mechanism,” he said.
