Johor Polls: Early Voting Concludes At All 62 Centres
JOHOR BAHRU, July 7 (Bernama) -- The early voting process for the 16th Johor State Election involving security personnel and their spouses concluded today after all 62 early voting centres closed by 5 pm.
The polling centres, which opened at 8 am, were closed in stages according to their locations and the number of registered voters, as determined by the Election Commission (EC).
Earlier, EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun told a press conference at Dewan Mahkota, Kem Mahkota in Kluang that 29 early voting centres were closed at noon.
Another five early voting centres closed at 2 pm, while the remaining 28 closed at 5 pm.
Today's early voting involved 20,607 electors, comprising 8,544 Malaysian Armed Forces personnel and their spouses as well as 12,063 police personnel and their spouses.
As of 3 pm, the EC recorded that 19,136 early voters, or 92.86 per cent, had cast their ballots.
The EC has set a target of 96 per cent turnout for the early voting.
All early ballot boxes will be kept at police stations before the vote counting process begins at 5 pm on polling day this Saturday.
On Saturday, 2,727,926 voters are eligible to cast their ballots at 1,140 polling centres across Johor.
A total of 172 candidates are contesting the 56 seats in the Johor State Legislative Assembly.
