Johor Polls: Acceptance Encourages Confidence For Danish Hossman To Capture Johor Lama
By Muhammad Saufee Rosman
JOHOR BAHRU, July 6 (Bernama) -- The youngest candidate in the 16th Johor state election, Danish Hossman Abd Rahman, described the positive momentum and encouraging reception in the Johor Lama state constituency as an "injection of enthusiasm" to bring about dynamic change in the area.
Danish Hossman, 23, who represents Pakatan Harapan (PH), said his consistent fieldwork has allowed him to feel the pulse of various layers of society, thus strengthening his confidence to give a tough competition in this polls.
The Master of Information Technology student from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) said that veterans in particular have welcomed his presence and see his young age as an advantage to bring new life to the area.
“When I reach out to veterans and older voters, they like a young person who they see as sincere and enthusiastic to go out into the field to hear the problems themselves as well as meeting the voters face to face.
“I can also say that this group is fed up with leaders of their age or older than them, who we see very little going out into the field after so long and the problems faced by the people are also not being resolved,” he told Bernama here, today.
Danish Hossman said he does not place age as a measure of leadership, but rather intends to act as a “strategic bridge” that connects the experience of previous leaders with the fresh aspirations of the new generation.
“As a young person, I do not disregard the experience of the old, and I consider myself a bridge between the experience of the old and the aspirations of the younger generation,” he said.
Now, in the final week of the campaign, he is determined to step up meetings with voters in towns, villages and Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) settlements, in addition to focusing on the youth, women and small business community.
“I met not just once, as we came many times for them to be familiar with me… I want the people to judge the candidates based on their capabilities, not in terms of politics of hatred or personal attacks,” he said.
Commenting on the agenda, Danish Hossman identified the lack of affordable housing and job opportunities as the main concerns of the population that resulted in the migration of young people.
In this regard, he intends to bring in more investments and develop downstream industries that are in line with the potential of Johor Lama, including cultivating crops and livestock activities to boost the local economy.
“We want to fight for more investments and industrial development that is in line with the potential of this area so that more job opportunities can be created.
“My goal is to give young people in Johor Lama constituency the choice to build a career, raise a family and build a future in their own viilage,” he said.
The Johor Lama state seat is seeing a three-cornered fight involving Danish Hossman against the incumbent, Norlizah Noh of Barisan Nasional (BN) and Aisah Esa representing Perikatan Nasional (PN).
A total of 172 candidates are contesting for 56 seats in the state election and polling day is set for this Saturday while early voting will be held tomorrow.
