Johor Polls: Guna Balakrishnan Sets Four Priorities If Elected In Layang-layang

By Mohamad Syazwan Mustafa

KLUANG, July 6 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Layang-Layang state seat Guna Balakrishnan has outlined four key priorities to be implemented within his first 100 days if elected as the constituency’s representative in the upcoming Johor state election.

The four priorities are improving street lighting, strengthening internet and telecommunications coverage, addressing the issue of wild animal encroachment, and tackling the theft of oil palm fruit, which he described as among the issues most frequently raised by residents during the campaign.

He said that, on the issue of street lighting, his initial target was to resolve between 50 and 60 per cent of complaints within the first 100 days.

“As for internet and telecommunications, we believe the issue can be resolved within 100 days because the necessary infrastructure, such as feeders, is already in place. We only need to install additional transmitters in certain areas,” he told Bernama when met at the PH main operations centre for the Layang-Layang state constituency here.

Guna said he would also give immediate attention to the issue of wild animal encroachment affecting residents in several areas, as well as tackle the theft of oil palm fruit after receiving numerous complaints during his grassroots engagements.

Yesterday, Guna unveiled his manifesto for the Layang-Layang state constituency, outlining a holistic development agenda that includes addressing flood issues, upgrading road infrastructure and street lighting, as well as enhancing digital access and internet coverage.

The manifesto also places emphasis on human capital development through support for women's entrepreneurship programmes, expanding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) opportunities for youths, and improving the welfare of senior citizens through the establishment of a senior citizen activity centre (PAWE).

The Layang-Layang state constituency, which has 25,181 registered voters, will see a three-cornered contest involving Guna, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Chua Jian Boon, and the incumbent, Abd Mutalip Abd Rahim, who is representing Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The Johor state election will be held on July 11, while early voting is scheduled for tomorrow (July 7).
