Johor Polls: PH Wins Crucial To Strengthening Checks and Balances - Loke
KLUANG, July 3 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) victory in the Johor state election is crucial in strengthening the system of checks and balances in the state’s democracy, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
He said PH candidate victories across multiple constituencies are necessary to prevent Johor’s political landscape from being dominated by a single coalition, and to promote a more stable administration.
“If a single party (dominates the administration), a government will have no alternative, no checks and balances, and no other party to challenge them,” he said when speaking at a DAP dinner event here tonight.
Among those present were DAP deputy national chairman Nga Kor Ming and deputy secretary-general Steven Sim Chee Keong.
PH, which includes PKR, DAP and Amanah, is fielding candidates in all 56 state assembly seats in this election.
In total, 172 candidates are contesting the Johor state election, due to be held on July 11, with early voting on July 7.
