Johor Polls: BN To Focus On People's Issues, Not Attack Opponents - Ahmad Zahid
JOHOR BAHRU, June 14 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) will focus on presenting its agenda and policies to the people rather than attacking its political opponents during the Johor state election campaign, BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
The Deputy Prime Minister said party machinery at all levels had been reminded of the approach.
“We are not taking the approach of attacking anyone or any political party. I have instructed the party machinery at the national, Johor and other state levels facing elections to adopt a different approach.
“We want to address issues affecting the people and offer a better agenda for them. As much as possible, we do not want to attack any party. If we are attacked, we will respond, but we will not initiate attacks against anyone,” he said.
He told reporters this after attending the ‘Haul Asmaulhusna 2026 Zikir’ programme at Sultan Iskandar Mosque in Bandar Dato' Onn here today.
Also present were Johor BN chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
In a related development, Ahmad Zahid said BN's candidate list for the Johor state election is in the final stages of being finalised and is expected to be announced about a week before nomination day.
The Election Commission (EC) has set July 11 as polling day for the 16th Johor state election, with nomination day on June 27 and early voting on July 7.
