KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi congratulated the Malaysian 2026 Commonwealth Games contingent of 59 athletes, including 22 para athletes on their excellent achievement at the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
He said that their success in bringing home eight gold, three silver and five bronze medals exceeded the set target, and was the country’s best achievement since 2010.
“Congratulations to all athletes, coaches, officials, support staff and everyone who worked hard to bring glory to Malaysia.
“Whether you won a medal or not, all Malaysians are proud of every sacrifice and effort displayed,” he posted on Facebook today.
He described the team’s success as proof that Malaysia could stand proud internationally thanks to the careful preparation, team spirit and high commitment shown and hoped that it would inspire Malaysia to achieve greater success in the future.
Malaysia finished 10th in the medal standings with 16 medals.
