GUA MUSANG, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- The installation of a Bailey bridge on the FT008 Gua Musang-Kota Bharu Federal Road, which was closed due to a sinkhole, is expected to be completed by Oct 24, subject to weather conditions and smooth work progress.
Kelantan Public Works Department (JKR) director Nik Badlihisham Nik Ismail said installation of the two-lane bridge was 40 per cent complete as of yesterday, the second day of operations.
“So far, 40 feet of the total 140-foot bridge have been installed. Construction of the approach roads will commence once the main structure is in place.
“The installation of this 42 metre-long and 7.35 metre-wide bridge is expected to take five days, followed by another three days for the construction of the approach roads,” he told Bernama today.
Nik Badlihisham said the work, which involved a bridge relocated from Machang, was being carried out by 34 JKR personnel and had proceeded smoothly, with rain at night being the only challenge encountered so far.
On Oct 10, the FT008 Gua Musang-Kota Bharu road near Kesedar Recreation Park was closed to all vehicles after a sinkhole about eight metres deep appeared.
