KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Claims that Bangladeshis recently gathered in Bukit Bintang are untrue, as a viral video purportedly showing the gathering was found to have been edited using artificial intelligence (AI).
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said checks found that the original video was actually footage of New Year celebrations in Bukit Bintang in 2022.
“The video is old footage showing the Selangor Foundation Building, which is old and worn. The issue being chanted about in the video was the Comilla issue in Bangladesh in 2022,” he said in a statement here tonight.
Fadil also confirmed that no gatherings involving Bangladeshi nationals or any other groups had been recorded in the Bukit Bintang area from January until today.
Earlier, a short video went viral on social media over the past few days, claiming that a group of Bangladeshis had gathered in the capital to demand self-administrative powers for the Comilla region.
