KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaya (UM) has denied claims that disciplinary action was taken against a student over questions and views voiced during the recent International Future Young Leaders Summit (iFUTURE 2026).
UM Vice-Chancellor Datuk Seri Prof Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman said the university consistently respects students' rights to ask questions and express opinions.
"I wish to clarify that no disciplinary action was taken against the student concerned. Therefore, allegations circulating on this matter are untrue," he said in a statement today.
He said platforms like iFUTURE 2026, established by the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE), serve as vital spaces for direct dialogue between students and university leadership.
"To me, differences of opinion are not a threat, but part of an intellectual culture that must continue to be nurtured. We may not always agree, but students must be given room to speak and be heard," he said.
The three-day summit, held from Oct 11 to 13, gathered 1,231 student leaders comprising 813 Malaysian participants and 418 international delegates from 60 countries to strengthen international student leadership networks through intellectual discourse and strategic engagement.
