KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The government supports efforts to strengthen Islamic scholarship, research and intellectual discourse that can contribute to national governance and the well-being of the ummah, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said this in a post on X after receiving a courtesy call from a delegation from Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin International Islamic University (UniSIRAJ), led by its Board of Directors chairman, who is also Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, today.

“The meeting discussed the 2027-2030 Action Plan of the al-Qaradawi Institute of Thought (IPQ), which focuses on research, publications, talent development and strengthening scholarly networks,” he said.

Anwar said the meeting also discussed a proposal to organise the International Seminar on al-Qaradawi Thought next year to broaden discourse on Islamic thought and contemporary national governance challenges.

In a separate post, Anwar said the government had always valued the contributions of community organisations committed to supporting the national development agenda, strengthening the spirit of togetherness and ensuring that the people’s well-being remained a priority.

Earlier, the Prime Minister met a delegation from the Malaysian Islamic Welfare and Dakwah Organisation (PEKIDA), led by its president, Datuk Mohd Foad Mat Isa.

He said the meeting also provided an opportunity to strengthen ties between the government and community organisations, as well as enhance cooperation in preserving national unity, harmony and the well-being of the people.
