KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Art museum teamLab Planets TOKYO, created by art collective teamLab, has unveiled Body of Waves, a new artwork that visitors enter with their entire bodies.
Visitors’ feet sink into the large, soft and flexible sculpture as they walk across it, causing it to change shape. The movement ripples slowly through the whole sculpture, so visitors feel one another’s presence through it.
Lights flow down the sculpture, following its constantly changing shape.
According to teamLab Planets, the sculpture is not meant to be viewed from the outside but uses its physical properties to connect the bodies of the people inside it.
Two existing works, Existence in the Flow Creates Vortices and Waterfall of Ephemeral Crystals, have also been updated, teamLab Planets said in a statement.
In Existence in the Flow Creates Vortices, vortices form behind visitors as they climb against a flow of computer-simulated water.
Meanwhile, Waterfall of Ephemeral Crystals is based on an earlier teamLab work created on a natural waterfall in Shikoku, with shining particles cascading down to form a waterfall of light.
teamLab Planets describes itself as a museum where visitors walk through water, with artworks that change in response to the people in them.
The museum, located in Toyosu, Tokyo, is open daily from 8am to 10pm, with final admission one hour before closing.
