JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 15 (Bernama) – Two trade and business cooperation agreements exceeding US$234,000 (RM984,000) in value were signed between Malaysian and Indonesian business entities to open up new market and investment opportunities in both countries.
The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Johor Bahru said in a statement today that the agreements involve supplying Indonesian food products to Johor and Pahang, and cooperation in the oil and gas sector, skills training and health tourism.
Both agreements, facilitated in collaboration with the KJRI, were signed today at Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026 in Tangerang, Indonesia.
The first agreement, worth US$134,652 (about RM565,000), involves Malaysian company MAW Global Trading and Indonesian food producer CV Berkah Pangan Nusantara from East Java.
Under the agreement, MAW Global Trading will import food products, including flavoured flour, cooking spices and seasonings, for distribution in Johor and Pahang.
MAW Global Trading representative Ahmad Amirul Latepi said the southern and east coast regions of Peninsular Malaysia offer significant growth potential for Indonesia’s processed food products.
The second agreement, with an indicative value of US$100,000 (about RM420,000), was signed between the Dumai City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and Malaysia's Malay Economic Development Chamber (MEDC).
The cooperation explores investment and business development opportunities in the oil and gas sector, workers' skills training and certification, and tourism, including health tourism. The collaboration is expected to be implemented soon with no specific date set. There will be further technical discussions between the parties.
Indonesia’s Consul General in Johor Bahru Sigit S Widiyanto said the food export agreement could pave the way for Indonesian products to expand into Melaka and Negeri Sembilan, in addition to Johor and Pahang.
He said the KADIN Dumai-MEDC cooperation is also expected to create new investment opportunities in various priority sectors.
Sigit also emphasised the importance of well-planned follow-up actions to ensure that both agreements are implemented and deliver tangible economic benefits to both countries.
He said the KJRI will continue to arrange business meetings and follow-up technical discussions to strengthen bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
