KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The government has introduced targeted subsidies and made essential goods available at affordable prices through the Jualan Rahmah programme to cushion the impact of external risks on the people.
Prime Minister’s Office economic adviser Nurhisham Hussein said Malaysia’s fuel supply was supported by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), as well as the country’s own refining facilities and oil and gas resources.
“We have our own oil and gas resources, and we can maintain good relations with other countries, allowing us to buy whatever we need,” he said as a guest on Radio Televisyen Malaysia’s (RTM) BizMalaysia programme, themed “Budget 2027: From Growth to Well-being”, today.
Asked whether Budget 2027 should continue to focus on fiscal consolidation and subsidy retargeting if unexpected economic developments occurred next year, Nurhisham said Malaysia needed to remain flexible in responding to crises.
He said lessons from previous crises had highlighted the need to address various challenges, including supply disruptions and rising prices.
Nurhisham said sound fiscal management over the past three to four years had created fiscal space for the country to manage any crisis and respond with greater flexibility.
