KOTA KINABALU, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- All schools in the Tawau district will close starting tomorrow (Oct 14) after the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading exceeded 150, placing it in the unhealthy range.
The Sabah State Education Department (JPNS) said in a statement today that the decision was a precautionary move to protect students, teachers, and school staff from air pollution risks.
JPNS also informed all school administrators in Tawau district to note and follow the closure directive.
"Parents and guardians are also advised to ensure their children remain in safe places, reduce outdoor activities, and keep updated on current air quality developments through official channels," the statement read.
The statement said school reopening will depend on air quality and official instructions from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and JPNS.
JPNS expressed appreciation for all parties' cooperation in keeping the health, safety, and welfare of students and the education community a top priority.
