KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- Sabah and Sarawak will continue to receive the highest Federal allocations under Budget 2027, which was tabled today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling the budget themed “Reaching for the Sky, Rooted in the Ground” in the Dewan Rakyat today, said Sabah would receive RM18.7 billion, up from RM17.6 billion this year.
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said Sarawak would receive RM16.2 billion, compared with RM15.1 billion this year.
He said road projects in Sabah and Sarawak would continue, supported by an allocation of RM3.3 billion under Budget 2027.
“Among them, the Letter of Acceptance (SST) for the Miri section of the Trans Borneo Highway has been issued, while those for the Limbang and Lawas sections are expected to be issued by the end of this year.
“The Sarawak-Sabah Link Road 1 and Pan Borneo Sabah Phase 1B are targeted for completion by the end of next year. In addition, RM350 million in Federal road maintenance funds has been set aside for G1-G4 contractors in Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
Anwar also announced that the government had agreed to double the number of Public Service Department (JPA) scholarships offered to students from Sabah and Sarawak.
“This means that 4,200 students from Sabah and Sarawak will have the opportunity to pursue higher education every year,” he said.
On the Sibu Special Economic Zone, he said the Sarawak government had expressed its commitment to developing the zone, prompting the Federal Government to begin formal negotiations to finalise the incentive framework, a one-stop investment facilitation centre and strategic infrastructure requirements.
“The government has also agreed to install a Statcom system at the Dam Road and Segaliud Main Intake Substations at a cost of RM204 million. Meanwhile, the Southern Link Transmission Line project will proceed as a long-term measure to ensure a sustainable electricity supply in Sabah,” he said.
