KOTA BHARU, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing his wife six times in an incident at Kampung Padang Lepai, Kadok, here, on Monday.
Kota Bharu district police chief ACP Mohd Azmir Damiri said the 47-year-old suspect had been remanded for seven days until Oct 12.
“The suspect was detained to assist in the investigation under Section 326 of the Penal Code,” he told Bernama today.
Meanwhile, the victim’s mother, Zubaidah Abdullah, 78, said her daughter, a nurse, suffered six stab wounds to her body and neck in the incident before being rushed to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital for treatment.
She said her daughter, who had been married to the suspect for six years, was seeking a divorce from him and had previously lodged a police report over death threats.
Zubaidah said she initially thought her daughter and son-in-law were merely having a fight, but realised something was amiss after seeing blood pooling on the floor.
“I tried to grab his shirt from behind to stop him from hurting my daughter again, but I couldn’t.
“We didn’t know he was outside the kitchen because it was quite dark there. I never expected him to suddenly attack my daughter,” said Zubaidah, who needed two stitches on her finger after being injured during the incident.
She said her 12-year-old grandson ran out to seek help as the suspect fled the scene before later surrendering at the Nilam Puri Police Station.
