KOTA BHARU, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- Mohd Sanuzi Mohd Nawi had never expected a reunion he had planned after being apart from his only daughter, Safiyya Haura, 3, for nearly a year would end with him seeing her remains following a fatal crash in Gerik, Perak yesterday.
Mohd Sanuzi, 33, said his former wife, Tuan Shazrin Tuan Mud, 40, had informed him that she would bring Safiyya Haura and her son, Mohammad Shiraz Hammani Abdul Fattah, 9, to his house here in the next few days.
“I had not seen Safiyya Haura for almost a year as she was living with her mother in Taiping, Perak. I was really looking forward to her coming because her mother had told me they would be coming to my house in a few days.
“I never expected that after waiting a year to see her, I would end up only being able to see my daughter's remains,” he told reporters at Masjid Umari, Mukim Telaga Bata, Sering, here tonight.
The remains of Safiyya Haura and her mother were buried at the Kubur Dusun Muslim Cemetery, Sering after Isyak prayers earlier tonight.
Mohd Sanuzi said although his relationship with his former wife had ended, he remained close to his daughter and they often kept in touch via WhatsApp.
He said he had also been informed about their journey from Perak to Kota Bharu and began to feel uneasy when messages he sent to his daughter from yesterday afternoon went unanswered.
“I always kept in touch with my daughter through WhatsApp. Yesterday afternoon, when she did not reply to my messages, I found it strange but did not think that anything bad had happened.
“At about 8 pm, I received a call from an unknown number and was informed about the accident and the deaths of my daughter and former wife,” he said.
Mohd Sanuzi said the news came as a great shock as communication between them had continued as usual before the incident.
Meanwhile, he said Mohammad Shiraz, who was also involved in the accident, remained in critical condition and was receiving treatment at Taiping Hospital.
He said based on the information he received, the boy was expected to undergo surgery tonight to remove a blood clot in his head.
“He (Mohammad Shiraz) is still in critical condition and the doctor said they will perform surgery to remove the blood clot in his head. I hope the surgery goes smoothly and that he will make a full recovery,” he said.
In a related development, Mohamad Hafiz Daniel Nik Hairey, 19, was buried at the Tok Jawa Muslim Cemetery, Kampung Budi, Tawang in Bachok tonight.
Yesterday, four people were killed in the accident believed to have occurred when the vehicle they were travelling in lost control before crashing into the front of a lorry at KM38.5 of the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway (JRTB), near Tasik Banding, Gerik.
The 1.30 pm accident involved three vehicles - a Hino lorry, Proton Persona and Perodua Axia.
Those killed in the crash were Al Zubair Deraman, 31; Tuan Shazrin, 40, and her daughter Safiyya Haura, as well as Mohamad Hafiz Daniel, 19.
