ROMPIN, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- The Agro MADANI Mega Sale @ Rompin (JAM), held at Pantai Hiburan here since yesterday, is targeting 25,000 visitors with a sales value of RM500,000 throughout its three-day event.

FAMA Director-General Faisal Iswardi Ismail said that this target is based on the encouraging response received from the public on the first and second days.

"Based on yesterday's and today's performance, we see many visitors attending and we expect this target to be achieved," he told reporters after a walkabout session at JAM Mega @ Rompin here today.

Faisal Iswardi said that JAM Mega @ Rompin is the sixth out of 10 JAM Mega locations implemented by FAMA throughout this year, with the next location at Taman Shahbandar, Kuala Terengganu from October 21 to 25.

He added that the same programme will also be implemented in Melaka at the end of this month and Sarawak in November before the final location in Johor.

He said this time's organisation in Rompin is part of FAMA's efforts to expand the implementation of JAM Mega to rural areas while offering agro-food goods at prices between 10 to 30 percent lower than market prices.

"This is one of the government's efforts to reduce the people's cost of living through the organisation of JAM Mega. At any given time, we also hold Happy Hour programmes, such as combos containing chicken, eggs, vegetables, meat, and onions whose original value is RM30 but sold for only RM5," he said.

According to him, the implementation of JAM not only benefits consumers through price savings, but also provides additional market space for entrepreneurs to market their products directly to consumers.

Meanwhile, he said that a total of 3,008 JAM events nationwide have been implemented from January until September 30 out of the target of 4,457 events throughout this year.

He said this total has so far generated a sales value of RM70.45 million and provided savings of RM23.57 million to consumers through price offers 10 to 30 percent lower for selected products.

"This programme has benefited more than 16 million households or citizens, besides involving nearly 50,000 entrepreneurs so far. This is a positive development because besides offering reasonable prices to visitors, we also provide additional market space for entrepreneurs," he said.

He stated that the overall JAM target for this year is 4,457 events with a sales value of RM94.4 million until December.

Commenting on the issue of rising egg prices, he said FAMA uses the implementation of JAM as one of the mechanisms to help consumers obtain egg supplies at reasonable prices, including offering savings of RM2.50 per tray compared to market prices.

He noted that FAMA also has 42 operation centers nationwide that play a role in the distribution of eggs to FAMA outlets to make it easier for consumers to obtain these supplies.
