LABUAN, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- The Labuan Immigration Department detained six foreign nationals during an enforcement operation, codenamed Op Sapu, conducted around the town area last night (Sept 30).
Its director, Mohd Redzuan Nawi, said the operation, carried out from 10.30 pm to 1.30 am involved checks on 47 locals and foreigners.
He said those detained comprised five Filipinos, including a girl, and an Indonesian.
“The detainees comprised one man, four women and a girl, and were suspected of committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963,” he said to Bernama today.
All the detainees are being held at the Labuan district police headquarters and Labuan Immigration Detention Depot for investigation and further action.
Mohd Redzuan said the department would continue taking stern action against those found violating the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passports Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963 and Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM).
He added that action would also be taken against those found employing or harbouring illegal immigrants.
