SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Several locations here and in Klang were hit by flash floods following continuous heavy rain this afternoon, causing disruptions to several main routes and slow traffic movement.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (Operations) Ashrul Riezal Asbar said among the affected areas were Taman Rashna, Klang, which was inundated with waist-high flood waters.
He said his team received a call regarding the incident at 7 pm and a team of seven members from the Klang Selatan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were then dispatched to the location.
"Fire engines could not enter the location due to high water levels and the personnel had to walk two kilometres.
"Seven victims, consisting of one man, two women and four children, were successfully found before being taken to a safe place," he said in a statement tonight.
Ashrul Riezal said all the victims, who were part of a family, were taken to a hut on a higher area and the water level had started to recede.
Meanwhile, social media posts showed that several main routes in Shah Alam and Klang were also flooded following continuous heavy rain.
Among the reported affected locations causing slow vehicle movement were around Section 7, Desa Alam in Shah Alam and Bandar Baru Klang.
Earlier this evening, the Shah Alam City Council issued a flash flood warning and advised the public to remain vigilant following a rise in water levels detected near the i-City traffic lights in Section 7 and the Padang Jawa traffic lights in Section 16.
A Bernama survey of the main roads in the Section 7 area tonight found that water levels had begun to recede and traffic flow had returned to normal.
