KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today congratulated the entire Universiti Malaya (UM) community on its historic achievement as the first Malaysian university to break into the top 200 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027.
The Prime Minister said UM’s ranking of 194th in the list reflected the university’s excellence in teaching and research.
Anwar said the achievement also instilled confidence that local higher education institutions were capable of competing with leading universities worldwide.
“Hence, this excellence must continue to be strengthened through a thriving culture of knowledge, freedom of thought and research that addresses the needs of society and the country. Universities must produce a generation that is sharp-minded, steadfast in values and morals, and courageous in exploring new ideas.
“This achievement should serve as a catalyst for Universiti Malaya and all our higher education institutions to continue improving quality and elevating the standing of knowledge,” he said in a Facebook post.
The Prime Minister also expressed hope that UM would continue to achieve successes that would bring honour to Malaysia.
Based on the latest rankings, UM recorded an overall score of 59.5 points, followed by another Malaysian representative, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), which ranked 242nd with a score of 57.3 points.
