KOTA BHARU, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- More than 400,000 job vacancies are available through the MYFutureJobs portal managed by the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) to assist workers who may be affected by the conflict in West Asia.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said although the conflict’s impact on Malaysia’s employment sector remained minimal, the government was prepared for possible retrenchments or non-renewal of service contracts.
He said the government, through Perkeso, was also providing assistance to workers who lost their jobs, while encouraging them to seek suitable new employment through the portal.
“We have Perkeso to provide assistance to them and, while waiting for new employment, they can visit the MYFutureJobs portal to find suitable jobs or better employment than their previous jobs,” he told reporters.
He said this after attending the Investiture Ceremony for State Honours in conjunction with the 57th Birthday Celebration of the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, at Istana Balai Besar here today.
Ramanan said the country’s employment sector remained under control with no unusual developments, but the government expected possible job losses if the conflict continued.
He said the situation could potentially affect operations in certain sectors, resulting in workers being retrenched or their service contracts not being renewed.
“There will indeed be people who stop working and some who may lose their jobs, but we are prepared, including through Perkeso, which will help cover the costs according to eligibility, whether 100 per cent, 50 per cent or 25 per cent.
“So, we do not need to be overly concerned because apart from the assistance available, there are also existing job opportunities, and priority will be given to Malaysians,” he said.
