IPOH, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Six people escaped injury after a fallen tree struck two vehicles in the Lotus area of Jalan Simpang Pulai-Lahat, Station 18 here today.
Perak Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a call about the incident at 4.26 pm, prompting seven personnel from the Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue Station to be deployed to the scene.
"The fallen tree struck a Perodua Bezza and an Alza, and all victims were extracted by members of the public before the fire brigade arrived. No victims were reported trapped or injured," he said in a statement today.
Fire operations commander Zaimeer Zulkifli, when contacted by Bernama, said work to cut and remove the large tree was still ongoing and was expected to take about two hours.
He said the incident was believed to have occurred when heavy rain accompanied by strong winds hit the area.
"The two vehicles involved have been moved to the road shoulder using a towing service, while firefighters are still carrying out tree-cutting works to clear the route," he said.
