KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- The Dewan Negara today recorded its condolences to the family of the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, who died yesterday.
Dewan Negara president Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah said her passing was a great loss to the nation, describing her as a stateswoman and one of the earliest and most respected Malay women doctors.
"Her contributions to public health and community welfare will always be remembered," he said during the condolence session, which was held after Perak PKR chairman Mohamad Hairul Amir Sabri took his oath of office as a new Senator.
Awang Bemee also prayed that Allah SWT forgive Tun Dr Siti Hasmah's sins and place her among the faithful.
"May her family be granted patience and strength in facing this great loss," he said.
The condolence session then ended with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a minute of silence as a final tribute to her.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, the wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, died at the National Heart Institute yesterday. She was 100.
