SHANGHAI, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s representative in the Electrical Installations category, Muhammad Haziq Lailla Zamri, is determined to prove that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students are capable of competing on the global stage at the WorldSkills Competition (WSC) Shanghai 2026.
The 22-year-old student from Johor Bahru TVETMARA said his decision to choose the TVET pathway over other academic streams after finishing his schooling at Sekolah Menengah Sains Batu Pahat has never hindered his efforts to achieve success at the international level.
According to the student who is pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Electrical Competency (Generation), his participation in this prestigious competition serves as an excellent platform to showcase the immense potential of the nation's skilled workforce.
“I feel incredibly proud and grateful for the opportunity to represent Malaysia on the global stage. Through the skills sector and TVET, this is how I demonstrate the country's capabilities internationally,” he told Bernama.
Muhammad Haziq, who draws inspiration from his experts and coaches, views the four-day competition running until Sept 26 as a true test, given the unpredictable nature of the competition tasks.
He noted that his experience competing in five previous international events including winning a silver medal at WorldSkills Asia Taipei and a bronze at WorldSkills ASEAN Manila in 2025 has provided him with valuable preparation to maintain both physical and mental focus.
Muhammad Haziq said his interest in the electrical field began as early as Form Three through a basic wiring programme, and he is now determined to translate his intensive training into a top-tier performance in Shanghai.
“My personal goal is to win a medal, regardless of the colour. While everyone dreams of the gold medal, I need to remain realistic.
“Whatever medal it may be, God willing, I will give it my best,” he said.
He is one of 22 young national competitors vying for honours in 21 international-standard skill categories at WSC Shanghai 2026, an event bringing together 1,400 of the best young skilled professionals from over 65 countries and regions.
