SHANGHAI, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated the 22 youths representing the country at the WorldSkills Competition Shanghai 2026.
He said all the participants are a source of national pride as they proudly raised the Jalur Gemilang during the opening ceremony of the WorldSkills Competition Shanghai 2026 at the Shanghai World Expo Cultural Center last night.
"Kudos to our 22 youths who embody the nation's finest talent in the TVET field while proudly and confidently holding high the Jalur Gemilang flag," he said in a social media post following the opening event by Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
Anwar, who is also the Minister of Finance, said he believes that those who will compete against participants from over 60 countries across 21 skill segments will surely fight their hardest to secure victory.
"I pray that all their hard work will not be in vain, but will instead yield proud results in the mission to hunt for gold medals for our beloved homeland," he said.
Anwar arrived in Shanghai this afternoon for a three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou.
The highlight of the Prime Minister's visit this time is a high-level meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, on Thursday.
Anwar will also attend the WorldSkills Conference 2026 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) and is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the conference's plenary session on Wednesday.
China remains Malaysia's largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, with bilateral trade reaching USD113.82 billion (RM456.68 billion) for the period from January to August this year.
