PUTRAJAYA, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Preparations for facilities for the 34th SEA Games and 14th ASEAN Para Games have reached about 40 per cent, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol said.
He said the facilities for both sporting events are expected to be fully ready by the first quarter of next year.
“From the facilities aspect, everything will be completed by the first quarter of next year.
“Once completed, we will conduct a test run to ensure all facilities function as intended and avoid any issues,” he told reporters after launching the one-year countdown celebration to the 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games here today.
Mordi also called on Malaysians to work together and play their respective roles in ensuring the success of preparations for the two regional sporting events, which carry the theme ‘Celebrating Unity’.
He said the effort involved various stakeholders, including the federal government, state governments, local authorities, sports associations, private sector, educational institutions, media practitioners, volunteers and the public.
“We want the whole country to feel the excitement towards 2027, not only when the competitions begin but from now.
“That is why today’s event is important. We are building momentum, awareness and excitement while encouraging everyone to be part of this historic journey.
“I also call on all Malaysians to join in the journey towards 2027, support our national athletes and be ready to become the best hosts for ASEAN,” he said.
Mordi said Malaysia had extensive experience hosting the SEA Games, having previously served as host for the regional sporting event.
Malaysia is scheduled to host the 34th SEA Games from Sept 18 to 29, 2027, followed by the 14th ASEAN Para Games from Oct 17 to 23, 2027.
