KUANTAN, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Police are hunting three men who fled after a fatal three-vehicle crash on Jalan Mempaga-Sertik in Bentong last Monday. They are also suspected of being linked to a vehicle theft case.
Acting Pahang police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the suspects, in their 20s to 30s, have been identified, and the man who rented the vehicle to them has been detained.
"The detained man, in his 30s, tested positive for drugs and is in remand pending charges in court," he told reporters after attending the monthly assembly at the Pahang Contingent Police Headquarters here today.
The accident occurred on Monday, when a motorcyclist was killed after a Perodua Myvi and a Honda HR-V collided on Jalan Mempaga-Sertik, Bentong.
The Bentong police chief had earlier said the driver and two passengers of the Perodua Myvi are believed to have abandoned the car and fled into a nearby oil palm plantation after the crash.
In a separate development, Azry Akmar said police are still probing five Orang Asli detained for allegedly obstructing civil servants during an operation in a forest reserve in Bera on Tuesday.
The five, four women and one man, were picked up on Sept 15 and remanded for a day under Section 186 of the Penal Code before being released on bail, he said.
He urged communities in the area to cooperate with the police, District and Land Office and other government agencies carrying out operations and resurveying work at the forest reserve site.
"When these blockades are put up illegally or as a personal action, it prevents civil servants from carrying out their duties," he said.
Azry Akmar also advised the public to get their facts right before posting or spreading claims on social media, and to cooperate with enforcement authorities so operations can run smoothly.
