Solarvest Urges Budget 2027 To Address AI, Data Centres, Grid Modernisation

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- Solarvest Holdings Bhd has called on the government to address two emerging national priorities, mainly artificial intelligence (AI) and the data centre boom, as well as grid modernisation and energy digitisation in Budget 2027.

In a statement today, the clean energy company called for fiscal and tax exemptions for Battery Energy Storage Systems paired with Large Scale Solar 6 and open-grid programmes, while extending the Accelerated Capital Allowance and Green Investment Tax Allowance.

“This could significantly lower the levelised cost of energy for dispatchable clean energy, encouraging private infrastructure investments while reducing reliance on fossil-fuel peaking plants,” it said.

Solarvest suggested enhancing the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme framework and dedicated renewable energy (RE) incentives for AI data centres.

“The government should refine grid access fees and provide a green data centre tax matching grant to prevent grid congestion, lower RE procurement risks for foreign investors, and reinforce Malaysia’s position as a sustainable digital hub,” said Solarvest.

The company also proposed capital grants via a RM200 million matching fund under the National Energy Transition Fund for AI-driven energy management platforms and creating a sandbox framework under the Energy Commission for energy intelligence and virtual power plants.

“This could unlock "negawatts" (energy saved via AI optimisation) and create an "operating system" for national energy efficiency, preventing costly grid over-builds,” it said.

Solarvest also urged the government to facilitate the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) trade and provide cross-border RE export incentives, expand the Green Technology Financing Scheme (GTFS 4.0) and the BPMB Green Investment Fund, while providing a tax exemption on overseas clean energy dividend income.

“This could position Malaysian RE developers as leaders across Southeast Asia, driving national wealth creation and supporting the APG vision.

“In addition, the government should extend double tax deductions for companies investing in university-industry collaborative research labs, specialised Technical and Vocational Education and Training academies, and AI-energy certification programmes,” it noted.

Furthermore, Solarvest said as Malaysia prepares Budget 2027, policy focus must shift from merely building generation capacity to building the energy intelligence and grid flexibility required for the next digital and economic revolution.

“Solarvest stands ready to partner with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, and industry stakeholders to execute these initiatives and secure a sustainable, net-zero future for Malaysia,” it added.
