YONG PENG, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong today declared that the party is at a high level of readiness to face the 16th general election (GE16).

The Ayer Hitam MP said MCA has been preparing early to face the election and did not leave things to the last minute, adding that elections could be called at any time because administrations usually last between three years eight months and over four years, based on the last 15 general elections.

"So I feel at this time, there’s only several months left. Maybe four to five months. If we want it expedited, I think usually that will happen, doesn’t reach five years,” he said during a media conference after attending MCA’s annual Johor conference 2026 at Dewan Persatuan Vhe Ann Khor here today.

He downplayed the number of seats MCA aimed to contest in GE16, stating that it was not the main issue.

“To me, the total isn’t important. To win more, that’s even better. But it’s only self gratification if we contest 50 seats and lost all of them, it’s pointless. For me, our target is to win,” he said.

On Kluang UMNO’s proposal that MCA give way for UMNO to contest the Kluang parliamentary seat for GE16, Wee said it could be discussed at the grassroots level, but the final decision would be at the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership.

It would also be the same for any change or swapping of seats in other areas, he pointed out.

"What’s more important is that if BN places a candidate, that’s the candidate who represents BN,” he said.
